I once had a dream, one that felt permanent. I wanted to become a surgeon. It wasn’t just a career choice, it was the identity I had already built in my mind.
But life doesn’t always follow the plans we make so confidently when we’re younger. Slowly and quietly, things changed. Circumstances and reality reshaped that dream until I had to face something I wasn’t ready to accept. I wasn’t going to become the person I had always imagined.
Letting go of that dream felt like losing a part of myself that had never even been lived. For a long time, I resisted it. I held on to what “should have been” instead of accepting what was.
Then life redirected me. Not suddenly, but gradually, I found myself on a path I hadn’t planned and didn’t feel connected to at first. It felt unfamiliar, like I was stepping into a life that wasn’t meant for me.
That path led me to Lucky Cement Limited, where I currently work as a Finance Officer while also pursuing ACCA. What I once thought was not meant for me became one of the most defining parts of my journey. Alongside my role, ACCA has required a level of discipline, consistency, and mental strength that I had never experienced before. It has pushed me to stay committed even on the days when motivation fades and self doubt takes over.
Balancing professional responsibilities with a demanding qualification has not been easy, but it has shaped me in ways I did not expect. It has taught me how to stay composed under pressure, take responsibility seriously, and continue improving even when things feel overwhelming.
Somewhere along the way, I stopped waiting for my old dream to return. Instead, I started building something new.
There was no perfect plan, just small and consistent steps. I learned to show up even on days when I felt uncertain. I learned to stand my ground in environments where I had to prove myself. I learned to keep moving forward without having everything figured out. And that changed me.
Today, I don’t measure success by whether I became what I once dreamed of. I measure it by who I’ve become through everything that didn’t go as planned.
I am more resilient, not because life was easy, but because it wasn’t. I am more confident, not because I had all the answers, but because I learned I could handle not having them. I am more grounded, not because I always knew the direction, but because I kept going anyway.
Life didn’t follow my plan. But I am still here, growing, adapting, and making it mine.
My philosophy now is simple. Life is not about becoming what you once dreamed of, it is about becoming who you are meant to be through every unexpected turn.
