Ms. Mariam Tabba Khan assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at the not-for-profit Tabba Heart Institute on June 2, 2005, following the untimely passing of her philanthropic father, Mr. Abdul Razak Tabba (SI).
Despite holding an MBA, she initially was not involved in her father’s business pursuits during his lifetime. However, after his demise, she courageously embraced the challenge of establishing and managing the cutting-edge Tabba Heart Institute, a dream project very close to her late father’s heart.
Under her leadership, the hospital has remained unwavering in its commitment to serving both affluent and underprivileged patients. She has fostered a culture of professionalism, humanistic care, and transparency. The institute has achieved ISO 9001:2015 (Quality), ISO 14001:2015 (Environment), and ISO 45001:2015 certifications, and is fully equipped to upgrade to ISO 45001:2015 standards. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan has recognized the institute for delivering postgraduate training in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, and Cardiothoracic Anesthesia. The institute also offers a Diploma in Cardiac Nursing, recognized by the Pakistan Nursing Council.
The institute’s research department, supported by the Aziz Tabba Foundation, has led several important programs, including the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) and the Cardiac Registry of Pakistan (CROP). Tabba Heart Institute is also the only hospital in Pakistan to receive the Platinum Award from the American College of Cardiology.
In the field of education, the Rehabilitation Department of Tabba Heart Institute holds accreditation from the International Council of Preventive Cardiology and Prevention (ICCPR), offering comprehensive, high-quality rehabilitation services while maintaining a 100 percent student pass rate to date. The institute is also the first in Pakistan to receive this certification. A registry site has been established for the Department, ensuring patient outcomes are benchmarked with international standards. In addition, the institute offers BS Medical Technology programs in Cardiovascular, Operation Theater, and Perfusion Sciences, all affiliated with the University of Karachi.
To expand healthcare outreach, Tabba Heart Institute has established satellite centers in Hyderabad and Quetta. These centers provide consultation clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, and non-invasive diagnostic services under one roof. Under her leadership, the institute also inaugurated an Emergency First Aid and Laboratory Collection Unit in June 2018 within LuckyOne Mall, South Asia’s largest mall.
